Yooka the lizard and his trusty friend Laylee the bat are ready to embark themselves in a new adventure that will pit them against the evil Capital B. in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. This new game developed by Playtonic Games and published by Team17 will take our two heroes to the Kingdom of the Bees to save it from being controlled by their arch-nemesis. Capital B. has created an evil machine able to control insects, and he is hidden inside his impregnable Impossible Lair. Yooka and Laylee will have to travel there and destroy the machine with the help of Queen Phoebee and her Royal Beetallion.
On the gameplay side, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is a hybrid game that mixes frenetic platformer action in 2.5D and a 3D overworld that the protagonists can explore. The creators of Donkey Kong Country have put a lot of effort into making both types of gameplay very fun and they have accomplished it. As you navigate through the overworld, you will solve different puzzles, and your actions will have an effect on the different scenarios that you will have to traverse in the platform mode.
A very interesting feature of Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is that you can go and try to sneak into the Impossible Lair to face Capital B. and destroy his machine anytime you want. You don’t really need to explore the world around it, but doing so you will enlist the help of Queen Phoebee and the soldiers of her Royal Beetallion, and that´s something that will come in handy when you have to face the multitude of deadly traps, ferocious enemies, and difficult challenges that are waiting for you inside the Impossible Lair.
