All the rumors about a new installment in the Half-Life series turned out to be true. Valve has confirmed that the story of one of the most popular first-person shooters of all time will continue in a new title, Half-Life: Alyx. The full game reveal is happening in a couple of days according to a tweet on the official account on the company, which also reveals that Half-Life: Alyx is going to be the Valve’s “flagship VR” game.

Today is the 21st anniversary of the release of the original Half-Life so the announcement makes sense. The only thing we know about Half-Life: Alyx so far is that the game is going to be VR-exclusive and that the action will take place between the events in Half-Life and Half-Life 2. But if you are a fan of the Half-Life series the name Alyx will ring a bell for you. Alyx Vance is no other than the co-protagonist of Half-Life 2 along with Gordon Freeman. It looks like the new game is going to be focused on her but we don’t know in which way exactly.

The announcement of Half-Life: Alyx has been a surprise for all the fans that have been waiting for a new Half-Life game for more than fifteen years now. Even though it would make sense that Valve uses a franchise as popular as Half-Life to boost its presence in the market of VR, where it’s present with the Index headset, it feels really awkward not to be able to play Half-Life: Alyx on PC, the platform that made it famous worldwide. The community of Half-Life fans has taken note of this and it’s already voicing concerns on the matter. Maybe it would be better to wait and see what Valve has to say regarding Half-Life: Alyx on Thursday before forming an opinion.
