EVO 2019 has managed to establish a position for itself as one of the most important international fighting games tournament of the year. Therefore, SNK couldn’t have chosen a better place to reveal their future plans for the recently launched Samurai Shodown.

Samurai Shodown – Haohmaru cutting Genjuro

We covered Samurai Shodown in previous articles, but this reboot of the original title, also known as Samurai Spirits has had a very good reception from the players. Not only it brings back a different fighting gameplay that is more similar to the classic arcade games, but the other features in the game also remind many of us of the endless hours that we have spent playing those classics in the ’90s.

There is more to fighting games than chaining endless combos, and Samurai Shodown proves it with fluid gameplay where timing is of paramount importance. The game also offers you plenty of characters to choose from, and each of them has different weapons and types of moves.

The Samurai Shodown series has managed to gather many adepts over the year, and it was quite obvious that all the fan-favorite characters that have previously appeared in the series couldn’t possibly be available for the release of the game. If you are missing your favorite fighter, you need to know that SNK is adding many more to the game as DLC. One per month for the rest of the year starting with Rimururu this month. Basara will land in October, Kazuki Kazama in November and Wan-Fu in December. You will have to pay to unlock all those, but SNK has decided to make Shizumaru Hisame available to all players for free in September.

As a bonus, if you are a fan of the SNK fighting games, you will be delighted to know that a new installment of The King of Fighters is in the works and it´s expected to launch at some point next year.
