The Dark Pictures Anthology, developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco has, seems to have a few surprises for us. Man of Medan, the first installment of this horror games series, will be released on August 30th. In this entry, you will play five different characters, forming a group of young adults that has gone to explore a wreck dating from the Second World War. But as in any good horror movie, nothing will happen as expected, and the group will be stuck on the boat, in the middle of a storm. With a strong narrative, remember that Man of Medan is made by the same studio as Until Dawn, we expected that we were to experience this adventure alone.
And it seems to be true, at least partially. Indeed, Bandai Namco has just released a new video presenting us not one but two modes multiplayer. It will be possible to play two online but also 2 to 5 players locally in a special mode called “TV evening mode”. The online coop mode will allow you to play the same scenario at the same time, but from two different perspectives, while the TV evening mode will put you in front of a tough choice: keeping your character alive at all costs or trying to save everyone.
While this is big news amd it will certainly delight many players promising scary evenings with friends, this is not the only news about Man of Medan. Indeed, in a recent interview with Game Informer, Pete Samuels and James Scalpello revealed that The Dark Pictures Anthology promises to be a rich series. We already knew that several games were planned, but we now know how much and how fast they should be coming out. Here is what they said:
“Well, the second one is well into production […] Third one is going to the end of its design phase in writing. And we’re shooting that with the cast in two weeks’ time to get all that. In the fourth one, I think we have a concept of the movements and design. The fifth one, we’re working on and we have the concept and are about to move into design.”
The initial project to create an anthology seems to be well advanced, and the team even speaks to us of a sixth, seventh and eighth part! There are, therefore, a lot of games planned for The Dark Pictures Anthology. Regarding the release dates the interview reveals that two games should be released every year. For this ambitious project to succeed, it will require that Man of Medan seduces the public, and we don´t doubt that it will do it.
