Half-Life: Alyx, Valve reveals a lot of information about the game

We told you about this yesterday in another article, Valve has announced that all Half-Life games will be free until Half-Life: Alyx is released in March. In the aftermath, a handful of members of the game team organized a question and answer session on Reddit last night.

A host of questions have been asked about Half-Life: Alyx by the community, and of course, not all of them have been answered, especially those that would spoil the story. However, a lot of interesting information has been made public by the team.

One of the most relevant things is the current state of development of the game. There is good news about that since the team said that Half-Life: Alyx was more or less finished.

With the exception of some tweaks to the absolute final scene, the game is done. Lots of us at Valve, as well as playtesters, have played through the entire game multiple times.

Therefore, Half-Life: Alyx should logically go gold soon, and we should be getting a precise release date for the game very soon too.

But that’s not all that has been revealed in this exchange between the game team and the community.

On the enemy side, the Barnacles will be present in the game, and VR will allow players to face them in new ways. Combine Soldiers will have several variants to spice up the gameplay.

In terms of functionality, the team states that the noise created by the players in the game will not be a central component of the gameplay but that there will be “a notable exception”. The game will also offer a variety of possibilities in terms of movement, and Valve is working to make it more accessible, especially for people with disabilities.

Regarding weapons, they will all be usable with one hand. Valve states that it has made this choice so that players can use their second hand to perform other simultaneous actions.

Finally, in terms of atmosphere, although Half-Life: Alyx is in VR, it will be visibly bearable in terms of horrific images. According to Tristan Reidford, (3D model maker at Valve): “Some of our gorier visuals tend to evoke a grim fascination rather than revulsion or panic.”

Half-Life: Alyx – Gravity gloves

Of course, many other subjects were mentioned, such as the publication of development tools for creating mods. We have discussed here only the most relevant points. You can check out the entire conversation between the game team and the community on Reddit.

Team Ninja has published Nioh 2 story trailer

Team Ninja is an experienced Japanese studio that has developed plenty of games since it was created. As a division of Koei Tecmo, the studio has focused mainly on developing the fighting games of the Dead or Alive franchise, but we can count some action-RPG titles among their creations, like Ninja Gaiden series or Nioh.

One of the upcoming games that they are launching is Nioh 2, and the studio has published a new trailer that allows up to delve a little more in the story of this second installment of the series.

We already know that Nioh 2 will be different from its predecessor and that its story will take place before the events in Nioh. In the new game, you will be able to create and customize your character instead of playing as William Adams. The game follows the story of historical warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi, but in Nioh 2 he will be represented by two different characters. One is the character you will play as a lonely half-breed demon hunter born from the union of a human and a yokai. Hiding his origins, he hunts yokai in the province of Mino. After unexpectedly losing control of your demonic side, you receive the help of a peddler called Toukichiro. He gives you a powerful spirit stone that allows you to communicate with yokai spirits and regain control of your demonic blood. From there on you are set on finding more of those artifacts and you embark yourself in a quest that will have you fighting against powerful demonic forces.

As you can see in the video, Nioh 2 features amazing graphics that represent the feudal Japan of 1955, and it will also let you take part in epic fights against yokai and other enemies too. The combat is similar to Nioh’s, but Nioh 2 also includes new gameplay options, and you will be able to bring out your yokai form and use special skills in combat. As you progress through the game you will gain experience and unlock multiple skills.

You will also be able to summon spirits to aid you through the use of Benevolent Graves. Those spirits will take the form of other players, with their equipment and skills. The game also features cooperative gameplay for up to three players.

The release of Nioh 2 is scheduled for March 13, 2020, exclusively in PlayStation 4, but it’s quite likely that we will see a PC version later, as it happened with Nioh.

Hellblade 2 developer announces a new project

Ninja Theory should have its hands full right now with the development of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 and Bleeding Edge, which are to be released in 2020. But it seems that Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has given them enough momentum to take on multiple projects without compromising the release of these.

They have just announced that they are already working on the development of another video game, which is called Project Mara. They have revealed it in a new video where Tameem Antoniades, co-founder of Ninja Theory, reviews the state of the projects they are developing right now, which you can watch below.

According to the British studio, Project Mara is an experimental game that will recreate the horror of the mind as accurately and realistically as possible based on first-hand accounts and in-depth research.

Ninja Theory already had a very successful approach to the experiences of the human mind in Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. The interaction of the protagonist of the game with her own psychosis, inner demons, and hallucinations, gives the story a depth and realism that couldn’t have been reached without that. If you removed Senua from the game, we would be probably talking about just another action game, since she is the backbone that gives shape to the story and makes it so interesting.

It is, therefore, logical, that Ninja Theory wants to delve deeper into human experiences. Even though they are moving away from the mythology in Project Mara they still want the experience in the game to be truly immersive and they aim to create a new type of narrative.

Despite a rather unusual and mature approach to storytelling in some of their games, which could be deemed as too deep for some people, Ninja Theory games are gaining more and more adepts every day. If you have not tried any of their games yet, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is definitely a good starting point. It will leave you wanting for more, and you will get what you need when Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is released later this year.

Dead by Daylight is full of new content

Released in 2016 on PC and later on consoles, Dead by Daylight was a hit among the players, having sold three million copies the year of its release.

Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game. On a map, four survivors have to escape from a bloodthirsty killer, who tries to eliminate all of them to win. The game features a variety of different killers with unique abilities, including some characters from famous horror movies, such as A Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream or Halloween. The same goes for survivors, and you can also develop your characters.

Dead by Daylight regularly gets new content in the form of chapters, which act as DLC, including new killers, survivors, and items. Another way for developers to add content to the game is through Archives. And Dead by Daylight has just received Tome II: Reckoning, which like Tome I: Awakening adds new challenges to the game, allowing players to earn a certain number of rewards. You will also discover the history of some of the characters through new elements: the memories.

In addition to this, Dead by Daylight also offers a new event called The Scarlet Swarm to celebrate the Year of the Rat and the Lunar New Year. Available in-game since yesterday, it will be up until February 4. For the occasion, a special lobby has been added, as well as hooks and generators in the colors of the event. Fireworks are also part of it. You can unlock new rat-themed items, such as charms, by simply logging into the game during the event. The in-game shop also has two new outfits for Jeff and Susie, and if you missed the ones that were available last year, you can get them with a 30% discount.

To find out all the content related to the event, you can consult the official game website at this address. And if you don’t already have Dead by Daylight, you will find it at the best price on our comparator.

Bandai Namco announces Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions

Captain Tsubasa is a manga series that has entertained the football fans for years. It was created in 1981 by Yōichi Takahashi and since then it follows the story of Tsubasa Ozora, a young football player who joins a club in Japan. The franchise already has plenty of games but Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions promises to bring “fresh air to the football genre” with gameplay featuring lots of action and the wild shots on goal that made the franchise so famous all over the world.

With anime-like graphics, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions will feature the most popular characters in the series, including Tsubasa Ozora, Kojiro Hyuga, Genzo Wakabayashi, Taro Misaki, Jun Misugi or Hikaru Matsuyama, but also some others that are yet to be confirmed.

As an arcade football game, you are not to expect the type of gameplay that you would find on some of the most popular football series, like FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer. Instead, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions adapts mechanics from the arcade football genre to deliver fast-paced gameplay and plenty of action. You will be able to execute amazing shots on goal through the use of skills, perfectly representing what the fans love from the manga series.

Up to four different players will be able to play Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions together, so it will be a very appropriate game to have a great evening with your friends. It has not been specified yet if the multiplayer modes will include online or be restricted to local, but we expect that both of the options will be present.

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions will launch in 2020 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC, and although no release date has been confirmed so far, we hope to be able to enjoy the game as soon as possible.

Half-Life games are free until Half-Life Alyx launches

Valve seems quite determined to make Half-Life: Alyx a huge success. It’s been quite a few years since the original Half-Life was released on PC and the announcement of the upcoming title created a huge expectation among the players who enjoyed the series. Whether you have played any of the previous Half-Life titles or not, you have now a great opportunity to experience the story of Gordon Freeman. Valve has decided to let everyone download and play for free the previous installments in the FPS series, including Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 1, and Half-Life 2: Episode 2.

According to a post on Steam,

“The Half-Life: Alyx team believes that the best way to enjoy the new game is to play through the old ones, especially Half-Life 2 and the episodes, so we want to make that as easy as possible.”

Half-Life games are free on Steam

The same post reveals that all those games are playable for free already, and they will continue like that until the release of Half-Life: Alyx, which will happen at some point in March. That means that everyone has a couple of months to learn about the story in the series. The events in Half-Life: Alyx take place between what happens in Half-Life and Half-Life 2, so it’s advisable to know what the story is about before playing the new game if you want to have a complete experience.

The list of Half-Life games playable is complemented with the expansion packs Half-Life: Opposing Force and Half-Life: Blue Shift, as well as Team Fortress Classic for those that love multiplayer.

Unlike Half-Life: Alyx, none of those games is VR but they will provide good knowledge of the franchise and make the experience much better for the players when the new game is released. It is a shame that Half-Life: Alyx will not be accessible to those that don’t have or prefer not to use VR headsets but we still hope for a change in the future.

GTA VI: a new index thanks to Rockstar’s taxes

Rockstar has definitely been appearing in the news quite often lately due to several reasons. We told you about one of them in a previous article: the unavailability of Grand Theft Auto 4 on Valve’s platform. It’s not known at the moment if the title will be purchasable again in the future, but it’s not the only subject that is making people talk about the studio right now.

Indeed, for some time, many players have been wondering about the future of the Grand Theft Auto series. More precisely for five years now, since it was in 2015 when the head of Rockstar North, Leslie Benzies, confirmed that work on the next installment in the series had already started at that time. But for the last five years, the studio has not been very informative. At the same time, it must be said that with the release of GTA V on PC and the development of Red Dead Redemption II, the team has been quite busy.

That hasn’t stopped players from expecting news from the upcoming title in the Grand Theft Auto series. This expectation has caused the apparition of a host of rumors and alleged leaks, more or less credible, which have been accentuated in recent months. The hunt for clues is in full swing.

We will have to wait with Trevor until GTA VI comes

Precisely, new information comes to bring water to the visibly inexhaustible mill of rumors about GTA VI. TaxWatch UK, a British think tank that has revealed information concerning taxes and especially the aid received by Rockstar in 2019 has revealed that the studio has indeed requested more than £ 38 million in tax relief. Without going into boring details, this represents a colossal sum which, according to TaxWatch, could only be linked to the development of a game of a certain size: GTA VI.

This does not necessarily mean that we will see the game anytime soon, and with the new generation of consoles preparing, it is quite possible that the title will not see the light of day before at least the end of the year. However, this still indicates a significant production cost and that the development of the game must be at full speed.

Of course, while waiting for official info from Rockstar, it’s better to avoid getting too carried away, but who knows. Hopefully, GTA VI is on the right track. In the meantime, you can always find GTA V at the best price on our comparator.

The Last of Us Part II might be coming to PC

There is no official confirmation from Naughty Dog, but we may see the launch of the highly anticipated The Last of Us Part II in PC. Initially, the game was supposed to be exclusive to PlayStation 4, but a recent job listing published in the developer’s website would point towards a PC release. According to the job offer, the developers of the Uncharted series and The Last of Us are looking for a graphics programmer who has experience with DirectX12, Vulkan or other modern graphics or compute APIs, and thorough understanding of current GPU architectures (AMD GCN, NVIDIA CUDA), to implement new and existing rendering techniques for The Last of Us Part II. Since PlayStation 4 doesn’t use those technologies we can only assume that the studio is working on a PC version of the game.

The Last of Us Part II is an action-adventure survival horror game and the sequel to one of the most popular games for PlayStation. It continues the story of Ellie in her conflict with a mysterious cult. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic United States where a mutated version of the Cordyceps fungus has massively infected humans, turning them into cannibalistic and violent monsters. Ellie is immune to the infection and that has caused her a lot of trouble during the events in The Last of Us. In this new game, her story continues unfolding as she struggles to survive in such a perilous world.

The Last of Us Part II was announced in 2016 and its release on PlayStation 4 is scheduled for May 29, 2020. There has been a bit of speculation in the last few months about the game being launched on PlayStation 5, but Naughty Dog has always been adamant about its launch on PS4.

We don’t know if this possible PC release that we are talking about will be confirmed in the future, but it would mean that another of the classic PlayStation-only franchises will be available on other platforms. As we discussed in another article, Horizon Zero Dawn will probably be released on PC too this year, and all this may indicate a shift on Sony’s strategy for its exclusive title. We will have to wait for a bit longer until we know about all the truth behind this.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the Cindered Shadows DLC gets a release date

Released last July, Fire Emblem: Three Houses had raised a lot of expectations among fans of the series since its announcement in 2017. Although the game’s release was supposed to take place initially in 2018, that did not stop it from winning a great success with the players. A success partly based on the fact that Fire Emblem: Three Houses is the first episode of the series to be released on a home console since Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, released in 2008 on Wii.

It was announced before the release that Fire Emblem: Three Houses would be getting four waves of additional content. Players have already been able to get the first three, which include new outfits and items, among other things, and they will soon be able to get the fourth wave. During a live broadcast on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate which revealed the latest fighter in the Fighters Pass, who is none other than Byleth, we got some news regarding the latest DLC for Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Called Cindered Shadows, it will be released on Nintendo Switch on February 13, and will bring a new story. It will add to the game a fourth house, the Ashen Wolves, which features four new characters: Yuri, Constance, Balthus, and Hapi. Cindered Shadows will also include a new area, called the Abyss, which lies deep inside the Garreg Mach Monastery. It should also be an opportunity to see new classes, as the trailer suggests. It also seems that the calendar system will not be in use in this new story, which will be accessed separately from the main storyline and that will, therefore, have its own save. However, once you complete the DLC, you will be able to recruit the four characters from the House of Ashen Wolves in the main story.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses – The Ashen Wolves

Cindered Shadows will be available on February 13 via the Fire Emblem: Three Houses Extension Pass. And you can find it at the best price on our comparator, just like the basic game.
