Ocean Drive Challenge Remastered Review

Hyo Software brings the Outrun formula to a new generation with the release of Ocean Drive Challenge Remastered. A mere glance at the Steam page shows some striking similarities to SEGA’s classic arcade racer – does it manage to carry on the cruising torch?

Ocean Drive Challenge Remastered Review

One would think this title would feature ocean driving, but that vista only makes up a fraction of the areas present in Ocean Drive Challenge Remastered. A race is at hand, and it’s up to JJ. Barrom, Cynthia, and Mr. Gatlin to make it through cityscapes, countrysides, canyons, and neon-drenched cities. These three characters all have their own objectives, and will constantly quip about them to the player and make Whitesnake references for the player to enjoy.

While the constant change in venue is nice, there’s nowhere near as much variety as titles like Outrun or Slipstream. There is a distinct lack of branching paths, meaning that all players will have the same playthrough each time. Rivals are out of the question as well, and the paltry three tracks on the radio are simply not enough to occupy the entire drive. As a result, this title feels like a half-measure. These elements could have just as easily have been put in, but their omission does not add to any sort of uniqueness.

What players will find a lot of in Ocean Drive Challenge Remastered is driving. The road forward is constant, with bends in the road being the most extreme element players will have to contend with. While each of the three characters have rides that vary based on acceleration, handling, and speed, the experience lacks enough depth to really make that matter. There is the ability to put in manual control or brake, but it takes pride in its arcade roots.

It’s just a shame that drifting does not play a large part of this title. Most bends can be taken at close to full speed, and the worst penalty one gets from bumping into a rock or another car is some slowdown. It just feels like players are going through the motions in this one, rather than actively navigating the road.

Rather, the greatest threat in this title comes from the other vehicles. The streets of Ocean Drive Challenge Remastered are absolutely flooded, and it can be incredibly difficult to navigate its traffic jams. Cars are erratic, and one particularly egregious section has a two lane road that requires absolute mastery. The fact that there is an achievement for not bumping into any cars is an absolute pipe dream.

Outside of a handful of achievements, leaderboards are also present. While far from a game changer, their inclusion is most certainly welcome nonetheless.

Ocean Drive Challenge Remastered takes away a number of features that made SEGA’s Outrun so great, leaving behind a bland title that does nothing to stand out.

Kill the Emoji – The Remake Review

All those who have been on the receiving end of an annoying text have no doubt wanted to blast those smug little emojis to smithereens. Drunken Apes has heeded your call, and has allowed players to do just that with their new title Kill the Emoji – The Remake. However, this recipe for success quickly proves to be an absolute disaster that should have been left on read

Kill the Emoji – The Remake Review

In what is one of the most straightforward pitches ever to grace the world of gaming, Kill the Emoji – The Remake has players obliterating a number of emojis. All of the favorites are here – from the smiling to the rageful one to even the puking fellow. All of these little circular creatures are hell bent on your destruction for no particular reason, but there are a number of weapons at your disposal to make quick work of the most annoying creatures since Minions.

The shooting mechanics here are what players have come to expect. WASD is the norm, and a jump, crouch, and reload button are all present and accounted for. There is also a way to drink beer if one so chooses.

It’s just a shame that everything moves at such a slow clip. Though there is a power up that grants the gift of speed, most levels feature a plodding pace. Kill the Emoji – The Remake also rations out ammo to an extreme – it’s not uncommon to run out of bullets when things get heated. Weaponry is bland as well, with shotguns, pistols, and machine guns rounding out the lot.

All of these things would be forgivable if the gameplay was gripping, but what is present here is duller than dishwater. The emojis don’t do much of anything – though there is a bomb emoji or other threats to contend with, most will just slowly gravitate toward you and whittle away your health to nothing. There’s no variety, no gimmick, no reason to come back – just waves of generic baddies. Though some might have a Santa or shark hat on, that’s nowhere near enough for them to stand out.

This lack of variety can be seen in its selection of modes too. Survival features a number of different areas and has players holding on as long as possible. Though most need to be unlocked through kills, the suite of areas can be yours in a single playthrough. Its Challenge mode does not fare much better, with players just taking down a set amount of baddies to progress. Between the two, the gameplay remains the same throughout.

The presentation found in Kill the Emoji – The Remake could use a lot of work too. Everything is oversaturated, giving it an ugly look. The constant quips of the emojis quickly becomes grating as well. Finally, the game has a habit of swarming the player – we wound up trapped on more than one occasion by a glitchy mess of emojis blocking our way (see above for an example).

Kill the Emoji – The Remake manages to be even worse than The Emoji Movie. The gameplay is bland, the controls are basic, and the presentation is garish.

Death end re;Quest 2 Coming Westward in 2020

Horror RPG aficionados will be able to dive into Idea Factory’s Death end re;Quest 2 when it hits the PlayStation 4 in North America and Europe in 2020.

Created in collaboration with Corpse Party scenario writer Makoto Kedouin and the original Death end re;Quest character designer Kei Nanameda, Death end re;Quest2 poses the question: “What happens when reality is consumed by darkness?”

The story of this title follows Mai Toyama, who seeks out an escape from her traumatic past. She soon enrolls herself in the all-girls dormitory Wordsworth, located in the mountainous town of Le Choara. Her sister Sanae was last seen in this small town, but Mai soon finds out that there are terrifying inhabitants known as Shadow Matter lurking in the area after dark.

As players take on this title’s battles and dungeon exploration, players can utilize the Overkill system to stack damage and the Knockback system to knock enemies to other party members. Through it all, players must be mindful of the Berserker, which has the power to instantly kill in a single shot.

How To Get More Quicksilver Missions In No Man’s Sky

How To Get More Quicksilver Missions In No Man's Sky
The Living Ships update for NMS introduces some awesome new ships but they are not easy to get. In this guide on How To Get More Quicksilver Missions In No Man’s Sky we breakdown the frustrating aspects of the daily quest system that locks the Living Ships content out of reach.

The first stage to getting a Living Ship in NMS is a frustrating one. You need to obtain 3,200 Quicksilver. It is a unique currency, one that cannot be found in the wild. You cannot mine for it, shoot asteroids, trade with merchants, there is only one single location that rewards you with Quicksilver.

How To Get Quicksilver In No Man’s Sky

If you want to learn how to get Quicksilver in NMS you must summon the Space Anomaly in space and board, then speak with the Nexus. This is where the frustration sets in.

You cannot Get More Quicksilver Missions In No Man’s Sky manually. Once you complete a Quicksilver mission, the mission is gone. There will not be another Quicksilver mission until the server day passes and moves on to the next day. Currently the average Quicksilver reward per normal daily mission is 250, meaning you will need to play for nearly 13 days, doing a daily mission each day to get the 3,200 Quicksilver needed.

There is a small light at the end of this dark tunnel however. Weekend and sometimes community events offer greater levels of rewards but unfortunately, that’s still at least 6 days assuming you do a weekend event each day for two weekends.

Sean Murray said in an interview that they are looking at delivering contents of different types, some of which are not immediately accessible, rewarding players for prolonged and continued play, so I would not expect any change to the daily limit of Quicksilver missions for the foreseeable future.

How To Get Living Ships In No Man’s Sky

How To Get Living Ships In No Man's Sky
NMS’s latest update introduces Void Eggs and Living Ships. This guide explains How To Get Living Ships In No Man’s Sky as Sean Murray and the team are trying a different creative direction with this update, locking the content behind regular grinding and potential group quests.

The hardest aspect to getting your own Living Ship in No Man’s Sky is finding Quicksilver. Quicksilver is a unique currency in NMS and is only available in a single location. Aboard the Space Anomaly when speaking with The Nexus, you can get a quest that sends you out to complete objectives in exchange for rewards, one of which is Quicksilver. You need 3,200 Quicksilver for a Void Egg, but you can only do a single Quicksilver mission per day.

There are other times when the quests become more frequent, during special events, and weekend events offer more Quicksilver but at the moment, if you are starting with 0 Quicksilver, you will not be able to get a Living Ship for quite some time.

How To Get Living Ships In NMS

How To Get Living Ships In NMS
Keep completing the daily missions for The Nexus until you have 3,200 Quicksilver. Then you can speak with the Quicksilver vendor, who stands directly next to The Nexus aboard the Space Anomaly. You can purchase a Void Egg (Living Curiosity) for 3,200 Quicksilver. Buy the Egg, this is your first step towards your Living Ship.

Once you have the egg, you will be given a mission to track down some materials. Once you complete the mission you will need to wait some time for it to hatch. The exact time is currently unknown as it appears to be different for each player, but on average players are reporting 20-28 hours.

  • Obtain 3,200 Quicksilver
  • Purchase Void Egg from Quicksilver Vendor
  • Complete Void Egg Mission
  • Wait for Egg to hatch
