Runpuzzle Review

Part endless runner, part Tetris-like block management, Blazes’ Runpuzzle has players filling in gaps with a number of Tetronimo-style pieces. Does this unorthodox combination gel, or is there a reason it hasn’t been done before?

Runpuzzle Review

Playing as a nameless low-poly girl, she sets off on an adventure that takes her across 25 different stages. Set in deserts, forests, and cities, she runs to the right of the screen, blissfully unaware of what lies in front of her. However, there are a number of holes that lie between her and her destination, and that is where you, the player, comes in.

In order to prevent her from falling, players must choose from a number of block types that correspond to the shape of the hole using either the mouse or the arrow keys. If there’s a square hole, the square block goes there. These types of moves are instant, with a simple press instantly placing these things with a “boom” sound effect.

Sounds simple right? Early stages most certainly are, with proceedings feeling almost pandering. However, as time goes on, things get downright brutal. Successfully completing a level unlocks a new shape, with some being horrible monstrosities of nine squares that make little sense. When the going gets tough, it can be absolutely maddening to figure out where these burdens go. There are also cases where there are similar looking blocks – trying to differentiate between a three and four item block when the going gets tough can mean the difference between a brief victory and seeing the protagonist flat on her face with a rain cloud over her head.

This is made that much worse with the difficulty the game likes to throw at you. Later stages have the blocks rotate or move up and down, making it hard to focus and figure out exactly what goes where. This was a completely unnecessary addition, and could have just as easily been taken out to alleviate a good deal of frustration. Collision detection is absolutely shot as well – there are times where the player will be penalized for falling into one of these holes, despite being more than six feet away from the offending spot.

It’s not like players will have to worry about this for too long, as each stage (and the game itself) is a short affair. There are 25 achievements for 25 stages, along with a two player mode (which has whoever lasting the longest the victor) and a high score mode that can more or less be seen as an endless mode. There’s not much else to keep players going, and the lack of additional objectives is a huge downside.

Runpuzzle is far more frustrating than it has any right to be. The blocks are needlessly complex, and even those who patiently master the odd shapes and wonky collision detection will feel empty when all is said and done.

This review of Runpuzzle was done on the PC. The game was purchased digitally.

Azure Striker GUNVOLT 3 Announced

Revealed at BitSummit 2020, Inti Creates announced that Azure Striker GUNVOLT 3 is now in development.

Using the tagline “fates are sealed as paradigms shift and a new era unfolds,” this entry is a 2D side-scrolling action-platform game that is similar in style to the Mega Man Zero series that originally appeared on the Game Boy Advance.

In previous entries, players were able to take control of the titular Gunvolt, who can jump, dash, and utilize a gun with special bullets that “tag” targets. From there, he can utilize a homing effect to Gunvolt’s electric fields, with multiple tags dealing additional damage. Skill plays a major factor in these titles, with previous entries providing a ranking system as well as several optional challenges.

Gunvolt also has access to super move-like skills dubbed Offensive Skills, which allow him to either perform powerful attacks or heal himself. However, each boss in the game has their own Offensive Skills that go into effect when enough damage is dealt.

Get a first look at the new entry with the trailer below:

How To Open The Gate In Sheriffs Building In Borderlands 3
Even if you have yet to find the other collectibles, you can still gain access to this room if you wish. Inside the Sheriff’s building, near the jail cells, you will find a room behind a metal gate. There is no way to open the gate or otherwise gain access from here, you need to do a little exploring. Thankfully, you don’t have to go very far. Simply head next door and go into the bar, or the Saloon. Once inside, check the bookcase next to the bar.

You can interact with it and open it, which gains access to the locked room in the Sheriffs jail via a broken wall. When you first try to interact with the bookcase, it may be locked. It only becomes available to open once you have completed the main story in the Borderlands 3 DLC. You also must first complete the challenges before you can open the chest inside the Sheriffs office.

Roller Riot Review

The enemy cyborg roller derby gang is out for blood in MassDiGI’s Roller Riot, and it’s up to you to knock them back into their place. Though this title only has a two button setup, does it offer up enough depth for even the most hardcore of fans?

Roller Riot Review

Hitting the neon cityscape as the genetically modified cyborg CB, players quickly find themselves surrounded at all sides by a number of lowlifes all too eager to knock her down a peg. However, she has the power of speed and her fists, and can take them down in a matter of blows.

As the player, combat is boiled down to its most basic elements. The A button allows players to lay the smackdown on enemies facing the left, while the B button zeroes in on those on the right. However, it’s important that a red reticule is on the enemy; failure to do so will net players a miss and have CB fall flat on her face. The key to victory is to time your strikes just right, all while keeping up with the throngs that get all up in her business.

This is both a blessing and a curse. While things can get positively frantic, it can be tough to keep track of what needs to be done. Missiles need to be reflected, larger foes need multiple hits to dispose of, and there are some tricky foes that are quick on their feet. There are only a few enemy types to deal with among each wave, but there is so much to manage at any given time. One can call it a learning curve, but it is one that players will have to mercilessly cut their teeth nonetheless, especially since things are over after three hits.

However, Roller Riot throws players a bone with its Frenzy system. Rack up enough combos and CB goes into a frenzied state that allows her to dispose of multiple enemies in quick succession. This is the true key to high scores and getting ahead, as the payout it provides is absolutely massive. It provides a welcome incentive to be careful, even when the going gets tough.

However, if one needs a little bit of help beyond that, a number of power-ups can be found throughout each playthrough. These can be stacked, so those looking for the perfect run can save up and splurge when the time is right.

There’s one caveat though – there’s not a lot of content to Roller Riot. Once players get through the first dozen or so waves of enemies, they’ll have seen most of the enemy types and be all too familiar with the flow of gameplay. There are achievements and a global leaderboard to chase, so needless to say this one is designed for the high score chasers in our midst.

Roller Riot’s two button setup provides just enough depth to keep the high score chasers among us enthralled. It’s not the deepest title around, but it doesn’t have to be.

This review of Roller Riot was done on the PC. The game was freely downloaded.

How To Open Vestige Bank Vault Safe In Borderlands 3

How To Open Vestige Bank Vault Safe In Borderlands 3
Vestige, in the Bounty of Blood DLC, has a locked gate behind the vault in the bank. This guide on How To Open Vestige Bank Vault Safe In Borderlands 3 will tell you what you have to do in order to open the gate blocking all of the loot locked away inside.

When you first arrive in Vestige, in the Bounty of Blood DLC, there are several shops that are closed. As you progress through the story completing side quests, different characters you encounter will return to town. Some of them set up shops, others simply add more items that you can loot like additional chests and driers. The bank, however, is there from the very beginning of your adventure and if you’ve already explored Vestige fully, you have likely opened the vault only to find yet another layer of security with a metal gate barring the entry to all of the loot.

How To Open Vestige Bank Vault Safe In Borderlands 3

Opening the Vestige bank vault is a very simple, albeit time consuming task, you must complete the game. The Bounty of Blood DLC is the latest update with the Season Pass for Borderlands 3. Even if you don’t have a character the game will allow you to create a level 15 character and immediately jump into the DLC content. It can be quite challenging with the base gear and abilities, but it’s very possible to breeze through the game in a decent nights play.

At the end of the story, when you have completed the goal and are set to obtain your bounty, you will be given a key. At this point you can take the key to the Vestige Bank and use it to open the gate that is sitting behind the vault. I don’t want to spoil the end of the story but it’s after you defeat the antagonist and return to Vestige. You cannot miss the key, it’s immediately after you watch the credits after finishing the storyline for the DLC.
