Doraemon Story of Seasons Review

Doraemon Story of Seasons is the latest farming sim to grace the Nintendo Switch and PC. Is it worth checking out, or should you stick to Stardew Valley? Check out our review and find out.

Doraemon Story Of Seasons

For full disclosure, players do not need to be familiar with Doraemon to play this game, and we went in without any previous knowledge of the series.

Doraemon Story of Seasons follows a young boy named Noby and his friends. While trying to figure out what to do for his school project, Noby finds a spiral seed and plants it. The seed quickly grows into a massive tree that the kids use for cover in a storm. The storm gets so intense that the tree and the kids are lifted up and taken through a portal of some sort. When they wake up, they are in a new land that they don’t recognize. Luckily for them, they ended up right outside of the town of Natura.

Natura is a quaint little village of farmers and workers who welcome the kids with open arms. With no apparent way back home, Noby and crew go out to help out around the village. Everyone gets a job except Noby, who is handed a run-down farm to run instead. The main objective is always to find a way back home, but it often takes a back seat to farming and other side activities. I do want to say that this game has the longest intro ever, as it felt like it took over an hour to get to the actual farming part of the game.

Doraemon Story Of Seasons Honest Review

Doraemon Story of Seasons is a traditional farming sim. You start with essential tools, a few seeds, and a field full of rocks, twigs, and weeds. You till the land, plant and water seeds, and reap the rewards later. Early on, farming will only take up a small portion of your time. Most of your time will be spent in the mine, catching bugs, chatting with your neighbors, and fishing. As you upgrade your farm with new buildings, animals, and crops, the time spent in the field increases. I overextended myself once, and had to take naps in between watering sessions to avoid passing out and being sent to the hospital.

You will also have to balance your farm life and social life properly. Without any real clue how to get home, the villagers will be able to help you out by telling you about Doraemon’s gadgets that got lost on the way here. Giving a villager a gift will raise their relationship with you. Give them enough gifts, and they will open up to you and become more friendly as well. I don’t think there is any gift they won’t accept, outside of your tools or essential items. I was going around handing people wood, rocks, bugs, and they always took them. You are encouraged to try different items on people, because some will give more points than others.

Something I really liked about the game was how straightforward the upgrade system was. I always knew what I needed and for the most part, how to get it. The upgrades all felt meaningful, as well. Upgrading the watering can …

Halo Infinite Lead Producer Mary Olson Quits 343 Industries

Windows Central discovered on LinkedIn that Lead Producer for Halo Infinite, Mary Olson, has departed 343 Industries two months after taking the role.

According to her LinkedIn page, she has taken on a new role as Head of Production at Midwinter Entertainment, which is currently working on the title Scavengers. Note that when Creative Director Tim Longo left the company, a statement was made stating that Executive Producer Mary Olson had taken over the campaign team as Lead Producer.

Community Manager at 343 Industries John Junyszek has released a statement on the r/Halo subreddit regarding the situation:

Hey all – I wanted to jump in and clarify what Tim & Mary’s roles were at the studio, because there seems to be quite a bit of confusion here. Before that happens though, I’d like to reassure everyone that the entire Halo Infinite team is rallying behind the game and is working hard to make sure we can execute on its vision.

Tim’s role as Creative Director was to help make creative decisions around the design and direction of the game – whether it was campaign, multiplayer, etc. Mary’s role as an Executive Producer and then Lead Producer on Campaign was to help drive the game to its completion for our holiday 2020 release date – with the latter specifically focusing on campaign deliverables.

Unfortunately the thread’s title saying, “He was replace with Mary Olson and she also left,” is far from accurate. It implies that Mary took over creative control of the entire game, didn’t like what she saw, and then decided to leave. If that’s what actually happened, I could totally understand getting worried – but that isn’t the case, as she was a Lead Producer and not a new Creative Director.

Producers at our studio support designers, engineers, artists, etc. by helping each of them track and hit deliverables. They also ensure the people they support are not overwhelmed with too much work and have all the tools and information needed to hit their deadlines. To put it simply, producers are the ones tasked with making sure the studio is always moving forward – even our Community Team has a producer to ensure we’re tracking our deliverables; blogs, social media posts, flighting emails, and whatever pops up in between.

Since Tim and Mary were friends of mine, I’m sad that I don’t get to see them as often, but I’m happy to see both of them doing well. Mary joining Josh Holmes at Midwinter is nothing short of exciting news for me, because I’m eager to give Scavengers another go soon (I played it at E3 and thoroughly enjoyed it). And, funny enough, I actually just bumped into Tim the other night at the theater for opening night of the Joker 🙂

TL;DR: Title is super misleading, there is no creative dilemma inside the studio, and there’s no writing on the walls.

Apologies for the long writeup, but I hope it helps clarify!

Note that Halo Infinite is slated to be a launch title for the upcoming Project Scarlett console.

What do you think this recent turn of developments means for the title? Let us know in the comments.

Gunkid 99 Review

Despite all of life’s uncertainties, most shooter aficionados can agree that happiness is a warm gun. Yongjustyong certainly feels so, and has shared his love with the world in his new title Gunkid 99. Tasking players with finding weaponry above all other objectives, should this arena-based shooter be added to your collection?

Gunkid 99 Review

One would typically expect the objective of a game would be to take down all enemies or get a high score, but Gunkid 99 does things just a little bit differently. Rather, the key to victory is to net a set amount of guns each go around. Each stage, players are thrown into a world that has both rapidly spawning weapons and enemies. Each new weapon provides a new style of play, and the next one that warps in might be completely different. Grab the set amount of guns, and come out victorious.

It’s a unique concept, as it prevents players from getting complacent. Going from a shotgun to a uzi to a gun that shoots freakin’ laser beams is a treat, and though each has their own benefits and drawbacks, making the most of what you’ve got leads to a compelling premise. The game certainly does not make it easy on you – not only do enemies spawn at a rapid rate, a number of traps have also made their way to many of the different stages. There is a dodge-roll that comes with i-frames, but simply having a good weapon isn’t enough – you need the skills to know how to use them.

This is both a blessing and a curse. It is easy to lock on to the enemy of your choosing with a press of the X button, but sometimes enemies come at you from all sides, making it a losing proposition. It is never cheap, but the odds are most certainly stacked against the player. Sometimes the speediest player comes out on top as well, as one can grab all weapons before too many enemies spawn.

To make things a bit easier, there is a store that features both items and weapons that can be earned from currency. There is a fair amount to choose from here, greatly changing the style of play. The prices are a bit on the high side, but the way they change the state of play is worth it in the long run.

Each of the five different worlds the game has to offer provides a decent amount of variety, and those that complete each level can also try out “Equipped Mode,” which only spawns weapons that are equipped in the loadout for a more customized run. The amount of variety on display here means that players can play the game on their own terms, and can learn it like the back of their hand before too long.

Gunkid 99 is a fast, frantic arena shooter with an interesting hook. Putting the focus on the weapons rather than the enemies is an interesting proposition, and its tight platforming mechanics seal the deal.

This review of Gunkid 99 was done on the PC. The game was purchased digitally.

Dubbed “Welcome to Station Square,” this throwback was posted by the official Sonic the Hedgehog social accounts yesterday.

Sonic Adventure Special Remix – “Welcome to Station Square”

Sonic Adventure originally came out for the SEGA Dreamcast in 1998, and Station Square was one of the Adventure Fields in the title. Whether this remix means a remake is on the horizon is unknown, but the title did get some love with the Speed Highway and Tropical Resort level remakes in 2011’s Sonic Generations.

Pride Run Review

Steam Factory, Hard Ton, IV Productions, and Green Man Gaming Publishing have taken their show on the road with the LGBTQ+ parade title Pride Run. Part rhythm game, part RTS, should you move to the groove as you spread peace and love to the world?

Pride Run Review

Leading a parade of absolutely massive proportions is no small feat – you have to keep to the beat, get the crowd riled up, and avoid any and all haters. Pride Run offers two different modes that allow you to make a scene in the form of “Vanilla” and “Play Hard.” The hunt for a high score across different cities might be the same between the two, but each one provides a wildly different experience.

For the more traditional among us, Vanilla offers up a rhythm game that is what players have come to expect from the genre. Button cues mapped to the face of the controller scroll from right to left, ultimately landing on the Pride Ray. Players must hit the buttons when the time is right, hitting them in succession and generating a large combo in the process.

This mode proves to be relatively inoffensive, but it plays things a little too safe. Those weaned on Konami’s Bemani line will be breezing their way through large combos for the entirety of the game. Though there are multiple button presses and button prompts that must be held down for a set period of time, those who have any sort of experience with rhythm games best crank it up to “Queen,” or Hard mode.

However, Party Hard tries something new with the genre and manages to provide a refreshing experience. Taking the form of an RTS-style game, players will plan out the intricacies of each parade. Players must make use of the analog sticks to guide different groups to specific zones, and then hit a series of button presses to get them to do an action. Bears can serve as a shield against haters like Neo-Nazis and the KKK, while Leaders can speed things up should the area get a little hairy. There’s also the chance to bring in new followers from the crowd, and deal with certain threats through button prompts.

It might sound like a lot to manage, but it all becomes second nature in due time. There is a fair amount of depth to be found here, and Pride Points can be earned to get fresh blood into your loadouts. If one is looking for the definitive Pride Run experience, one should dive headfirst into this mode.

Both Vanilla and Party Hard share the Boss Fight system at the end of each parade march. These battles put players up against the biggest pride enemies in town – we’re talking fellows like Trump and Putin lookalikes. The only way to show them the light is with a dance duel. Involving a series of minigames and button presses, the mechanics found here could use a fair amount of work.

While on the offensive, players must choose from one of three different attacks, but the button strings needed to activate them only worked about two-thirds of the time. The same goes with the minigames – choosing the biggest number in a bunch …
