Star Wars fans are giving a bit of a hard time to Respawn Entertainment because of the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order footage that was made public before the E3 this year. The fans not only were eager to watch the full demo that was shown to the press during the event, but they also have been voicing their concerns about the gameplay of the upcoming game being too simple and linear. Developers have made public the complete video that was shown to the journalists in an attempt to prove that the first impression that the fans are getting is wrong and that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a really compelling experience that “is delivering on the core promise of becoming a Jedi”.
It´s not possible to deny that watching the full video gives you a better idea of what the game is really about and what kind of experience it will deliver than what you would get with just with the 15-min video that was initially revealed. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order director Stig Asmussen has explained the reasons behind revealing it the way they did:
“We spent months going back and forth discussing the best strategy to release this content, and ultimately decided for the first-look, it was critical to present a focused 15 minutes of raw, in-game footage highlighting lightsaber gameplay that speaks to the Jedi fantasy in an empowering way but it should not be mistaken that our combat is overpowered or easy.
I promise there is considerable challenge and depth to be found within our combat system. The same can be said about our approach to level design, which is crafted in a non-linear way with heavy influences from games like Metroid, Castlevania, and the Souls series.”
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order gameplay
Playing the game by yourself would definitely provide a much better experience than just watching a video. Judging the gameplay of a game just based on a trailer specifically created to show the game in a convention seems to be quite adventurous, no matter how high your expectations about the title are. We will still have to wait a few month until the launch of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order arrives on November 15th, so there is plenty of time to for Respawn to reveal more of the game and prove that their points are true.
