The mystery surrounding the next installment of Plants Vs Zombies, whose name is Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville has not lasted very long.. EA had already announced a sequel to Garden Warfare 2 a while ago, and we knew in July that an invitation email to the playtest for this game, which was then codenamed Picnic, was leaked, informing us about the progress of its development.

This new game is now official; It will be called Plants Vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville and it will be released on October 18th. And this announcement comes with two surprises. The first comes because EA had originally announced the release of the game for the first quarter of 2020 and it’s coming much earlier, but the most interesting is that it is possible to play the game now.

Indeed, before the official launch, EA offers a Founder’s Edition, sold cheaper than the final version of the game and serves early access. It’s available now on PC via Origin, Xbox One, and PS4, and it will be available until September 30th only, when pre-orders will begin. The Founder’s Edition of Plants Vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville does not give access to all the content of the game right away; the different game modes will be progressively accessible, following a schedule well defined by EA, which you can see below.

Also note that if you have an Origin Access Premier account you have free access to the Founder’s Edition of Plants Vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville. Holders of a classic Origin Access account will also be entitled to try the game from October 15, allowing them to try the game in its entirety for 10 hours.

In terms of novelties, what gives Plants vs. Zombies: The Battle of Neighborville? You will find a total of 11 maps with diverse landscapes waiting for you. You can play through them on several gameplay modes in PvP with up to 24 players, but also in PvE. The roster includes six new fighters. Among the plants, you can find the Night Cap, a stealth mushroom and martial arts adept; the Snapdragon, spitting fire; and Oak & Acorn, a team of characters that can be controlled by several players. Zombies welcome Electric Slide, which handles electricity perfectly; 80s Action Hero, an archer straight out of the 80s; and finally the Space Cadet, that it is also controlled by several players. The Space Cadet and Oak & Acorn give the shape to a new gameplay mechanic called Team Game. The game will also include a store for the customization of your characters where it will be possible to buy items only with in-game currency, micro-transactions are not present in the game.
