The fans of Nioh will be happy to know that they will be able to give a try to the next title in the series during the open beta on PlayStation 4 that will be held next month. Starting November 1 all players can participate in Nioh 2 open beta, which will be up for ten days. All you have to do to take part and try the game is downloading it when it’s available in the PlayStation Store.

The original role-playing game from Team Ninja allowed us to experience the end of the Sengoku period in a fictionalized dark fantasy version of Japan, and this new installment will be a prequel to it. Taking place about a hundred years earlier than the events in Nioh, the upcoming title offers us a stand-alone story where we will play as a character that is part yokai.

In Nioh 2, being a half-demon allows you to transform into yokai form to have access to special attacks and abilities, and you will also be able to visit the Dark Realm to enhance your powers. This opens a new world of possibilities in combat, but you better be ready to die, because despite your new powers the game is not any easier than the previous one. If you have played Nioh, you already should have an idea of what to expect, but in case you have not, you have to keep in mind that Nioh 2 is quite a difficult game, exactly like its predecessor.

Nothing has been revealed about the contents of the Nioh 2 beta but what we expect to see is more of the same formula that made the previous game into a cult game: spectacular graphics and thrilling melee combats that remind us of Dark Souls series but with a Japanese flair.

There is no confirmed official release date for Nioh 2 but the game is supposed to arrive early 2020 on PlayStation 4.
