If you are a fan of Dragon Ball it is almost sure that you are quite excited about what has become one of the most anticipated games in the story of the franchise. We already know that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is going to be the perfect mix of action and role-playing based on the manga created by Akira Toriyama. The adventures of Son Goku from the arrival of the Saiyans to the Earth to the fight to save the world against the evil version of Majin Buu is one of the most exciting periods in the whole story, and it includes some of the most epic combats too.
Although we have seen plenty of footage from the game and even some combat videos, very little has been revealed about the character progression in the game. At least until now, because Bandai Namco has just published a video that unveils some of the features that will allow players to develop their characters in the game.
It turns out that there are plenty of ways of improving your characters. They will gain experience while adventuring and fighting enemies, and that experience will allow them to gain levels. As you play through the game you also can eat various foods and elaborate meals that will boost your stats. Z-orbs and D-medals work as currencies. You can collect them while you explore the open world of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and then use them to unlock powerful special attacks and skills, or to power-up the ones that you have already unlocked. To learn some of those skills you will have to visit special training areas apart from having the necessary items.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot also includes a quest system that will reward you with tokens, which are used to unlock skills and modifiers at the in-game community board. Depending on how you place those tokens on the board you will also get some extra bonuses too, so there are plenty of combinations to try.
The character development system in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot proves that this game is far different from what we are used to seeing in previous titles in the series. It contributes to giving shape to a deeper story and provides many more gameplay options. Pretty much it means that the new game is much more than a fighting game with a background story.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is coming on January 17 on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4.
