The remaster of old titles seems to be quite a popular trend among videogames developers lately and we can see them coming up very often. But when we are referring to one of the real-time strategy franchises most popular of all times we can’t avoid talking about it. The first title in the Command and Conquer series was launched in 1995 and since then, quite a few titles have narrated the story of the conflict between the Global Defense Initiative formed by countries from the United Nations and the Brotherhood of Nod, led by the enigmatic Kane. The discovery of Tiberium as an energy source and the fight to control it serves as the driving force in a conflict that has lasted for more than 20 years.

Being so popular, it’s not strange that the original Command and Conquer is getting a remastered version and now we can see how it looks for the first time.

The first thing you notice in this video is that Command and Conquer Remastered will feature graphics in 2D. The developers have chosen to stay as authentic as possible to the original game, but that decision also brings a surprising side effect to the game: you will be able to alternate between the classic view and the remastered one anytime you want just by pressing a button. It’s not like this feature adds much in terms of gameplay, but it’s a nice bonus since you can compare the graphics anytime you want.

The new Mission Selection Screen

We don’t expect many gameplay changes in Command and Conquer Remastered, but the graphics update is a very good excuse to experience again one of the most popular RTS classics. There is no official release date for Command and Conquer Remastered but we expect it to come in the following months. If you are a fan of the Command and Conquer series you should also keep your eyes open for the remastered version of Command and Conquer: Red Alert, which is in the works too.
