Pokémon 2019 Press Conference: a summary of all announcements

If you are an unconditional fan of Pokémon, you probably already know that the Pokémon 2019 Press conference took place last night in Tokyo. The event, which was broadcast live on Twitch, aimed to showcase current and upcoming projects around the license. If you missed it, here is the summary of the announcements that were made.

Detective Pikachu

While the film Detective Pikachu is currently being broadcasted in cinemas around the world, it must be remembered that it is directly taken from the eponymous game released on 3DS in 2016 in Japan, and in 2018 in the rest of the world. This episode ended on a cliffhanger that foreshadowed a sequel. Well, an announcement was made at the conference saying that the upcoming version of the game for Nintendo Switch would have a different outcome than the one presented in the film. No release date has been reported.

Introducing Pokémon Home

Pokémon Home

At the beginning of 2020, a new application with the name of Pokémon Home should be released. This app is described as “a place where all Pokémon gather”. It’s a cloud-based service that allows you to trade the Pokémon of Pokémon, Pokémon Go, Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu, Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee, Pokémon Bank on 3DS and even the next two games, Pokémon Sword and Shield. The service will be available on Android iOs and Nintendo Switch. It will allow players from around the world to share and interact online, but also with players nearby.

Pokémon Sleep

This new application remains to be discovered, the presentation that has been made remains vague to say the least. This is a mobile application, in the manner of Pokémon Go, developed by Select Button, the studio behind Pokémon: Magikarp Jump. Pokémon Sleep is described as an application that would turn sleep into a diversion, and as Pokémon Go encourages people to go out and walk, it would make players sleep well. Pokémon Sleep would save our sleep time to bring us unique gameplay elements, and even reward us in the game for our good sleeping habits.

The application comes with a new object, the Pokémon Plus +, which functions like the Pokémon Plus already available, and transmits information about our sleep to Pokémon Go. We do not know yet what will bring Pokémon Sleep in terms of experience, and the app leaves us for the moment quite perplexed. We will have to wait to find out more.

Pokémon Masters – Gameplay

Pokémon Masters

This is a new mobile game in association with :DeNA, aiming to regroup all Pokémon trainers from previous and current games. A short gameplay presentation was unveiled, just showing us a combat clip. Pokémon Masters is expected to come out in 2019, and we expect to learn more about the game during the month of June.

Finally, a new live event to present the two games, Pokémon Sword and Shield will be broadcasted on June 5 at 3am, Paris time. As it usually happens with all the announcements made during Pokémon Press Conferences, more information will be published soon for each of them, so you have to be patient.

New Details of the upcoming Fire Emblem: Three Houses unveiled

Japanese magazine Famitsu, has graced us with new info of the upcoming Fire Emblem: Three Houses that includes details about the characters and the classes. Basically, the game takes place in an academy where players assume the role of a professor that teaches the kids all they need to know to win a battle. All these students are also warriors; they are taught about courage, chivalry, and how to handle massive weapons without making a complete fool of themselves.

One of the most exciting new things that we have learned is about the the gameplay system. According to the report, once a player reaches the needed ‘teaching level’ at the academy, players can issue further commands that will let them, for example, assign adjutants to specific units. With an increased level, the number of units that you can command will also increase. This is an advantage that you will use often in battle, especially when you are doing a Joint Attack.

Become a skilled professor in Fire Emblem: Three Houses

The introduction of new “gimmicks” in the battle map has also been revealed. Most of the time those come in the form of environmental constructs such as drawbridges that can be used strategically to gain the advantage in combat, blocking troops movements, for example.

In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, players must create a good relationship with their students as this is core to a team’s success in the battlefield. This set-up is similar to the system used in Fire Emblem: Awakening.

The studentswill not be taking lessons during the weekends. That means they can enjoy a variety of leisure activities like cooking, taking care of their plants and crops, strolling, and even fishing. By far, there were a total of more than 100 screenshots included in the Famitsu magazine.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is coming on July 26, 2019, and you can find the best prices in our comparator.

Sea of Solitude gets a release date

After four years in the works, the long-awaited adventure Sea of Solitude is finally up for a release on July 5. This story-driven adventure developed by Jo-Mei Games and published by Electronic Arts was announced for the first time during the EA Play 2018 but not much else has been heard from it until now. The launch date for Sea of Solitude has been confirmed through a tweet on the official Electronic Arts Twitter account.

Sea of Solitude is a unique story where you will play as a young woman named Kay fighting against her loneliness in a world where that feeling turns people into red-eyed monstrosities. Finding out why she has become a monster and what will it take to become human again is only half of the journey. As she explores a flooded city she will encounter different characters, monsters, and challenges. Her aim will be to confront them to get rid of the tainted memories that corrupt the world and herself shedding a bit of light and color on the gloomy world where she is.

Sea of Solitude is an emotional adventure that features striking visuals and unique art, and according to Cornelia Geppert, CEO of Jo-Mei Games, “Sea of Solitude centers on the essence of loneliness and tugs on the heartstrings of its players by mirroring their own reality. It’s by far the most artistic and personal project I’ve ever created, written during a very emotional time in my life.” She also added that “Designing characters based on emotions was a deeply personal achievement for our team and we’re so excited for players to soon experience Kay’s powerful story of self-discovery and healing.”

The game has been created under the label of EA Originals that has already produced a few interesting titles like Unravel or A Way Out. Sea of Solitude will be available on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One.

Conan Unconquered Review – Barbarically Brutal

You’d be hard pressed to find a studio more qualified to tackle a fresh and innovative take on the RTS genre, as Petroglyph hopes to combine the depth and success of the Command & Conquer franchise with a new survival spin on the tried and tested strategy formula. Does Conan Unconquered thrive as a survival RTS, or are we facing yet another disappointing release in 2019?

Conan Unconquered Review

Developed by Petroglyph and published by Funcom, Conan Unconquered is a survival real-time strategy game set in the barbarically brutal world of Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian. The game steps away from the traditional approach to strategy games where, instead of facing set opponents with the same goals and objectives as the player, you are instead facing wave after wave of increasingly difficult AI assaults.

The game features a very short solo campaign style mode and a co-op mode, both of which feature near identical gameplay. The majority of this review will be focused on tackling the cooperative aspects of Conan Unconquered, which proves to be one of the games most pleasing aspects.

Conan Unconquered Review

Conan’s iconic dark world of sword and sorcery begins with a flurry of options aimed at increasing or decreasing the games difficulty levels, with harder difficulties rewarding higher scores. Each dynamically generated map can be altered, allowing for more or less choke points, more creep camps, and adjustments to the amount of resources. There’s a good selection of customization that offers both an ease of entry level for newer players, and a near impossible level of higher difficulty for the vets.

This is also where you are introduced to the games Hero system, arguably one of Conan Unconquered’s most exciting features – at least at first glance. There are currently three heroes available in the game, including Conan, Valeria, and Kalanthes (four if you count a reskin of Conan). The last of these is locked behind a paywall – the Digital Deluxe Edition. Even if the rest of the Hero system was perfect, locking away 33% of the players selection feels cheap, and it immediately strikes a level of disappointment that resonates throughout the entire Hero system.

Conan Unconquered Review

Each Hero acts as a key unit in an army. Individually, they are stronger than any units and can tackle camps of enemy creeps and sometimes entire waves of the enemies attack solo. This is mostly done through the use of a single, powerful ability. Each Hero, once they have earned enough experience points in any given match, can unlock access to a powerful ability. While these abilities are fun and powerful, a single ability on a lengthy cooldown seriously hinders any immersive connection with the Heroes. There’s no customization with the progression of the heroes and no equipment or gear upgrades. It’s an incredibly shallow system that should be one of the games focal points, but instead feels like a tacky afterthought to drive Deluxe Edition upgrades.

There are special Relics that can be discovered by defeating one of several Fortress Bosses on the map, which are made up of intense battles against a very powerful singular foe. These relics offer some additional depth to the heroes, but it still falls short of even the base level hero systems …

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, three new weapons videos

While the release date of the next Monster Hunter World: Iceborne expansion was revealed at the beginning of this month, we had until now a vague overview of what lies ahead. On the program, a new story, new monsters to face and above all the new frozen region of Hoarfrost Reach, described as the biggest of all the game, and of course new weapons and skills.

Indeed, the official Twitter account of Monster Hunter has revealed today three short video presenting the novelties concerning three weapons in particular: The Grapple Sling (Clutch Claw), the Long sword and the Great Sword. Capcom announced previously that all the weapons would have new techniques in Iceborne, and these videos give us a short overview of the possibilities that will be offered to us. And the sling is the one that has all the capabilities needed to become the most interesting one in the future.

The Clutch Claw is just a grappling hook added to the slingshot, allowing several new possibilities in combat. It will now be possible to use it even with a weapon unsheathed, which will let you perform spectacular combos. Also, the area hit by the grappling hook will be more vulnerable. It also allows the player to cling to the monsters to ride them, and it even seems that it is possible to control the direction of the monster to send him waltzing against the scenery or to a trap for example. This opens a lot of possibilities in combat and allows for great mobility, as well as the realization of sensational combos with other weapons.

Another technique would be to empty all the sling ammunition at once. This would not only deliver a powerful attack, but also destabilize the monsters, and create an opening to follow up with another attack.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

The fighting promises to be more frenetic than ever in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. As a reminder, Iceborne will be released on September 6 on PS4 and Xbox One, and next winter on PC. The next Monster Hunter: World expansion is already available for pre-order, and you can, as usual, check the prices in our comparator.
