Yakuza: Like a Dragon is formally announced in the West

SEGA managed to leave us shocked when they announced the next installment of the Yakuza series a couple of weeks ago. It is not that we were not expecting a new one, it’s just that in the announcement they revealed that the combat system in the game was changing to a sort of turn-based system. That fact alone left all the fans of Yakuza completely puzzled since nobody knows for real what kind of game is going to be. A great part of the attractiveness of the previous games in the series comes from the way combat is handled, and such an unprecedented gameplay change could turn the new Yakuza game into something very disappointing for many players.

We could only have a glimpse of the Japanese trailer of the game, but now SEGA has decided to announce its upcoming title in the West and we finally know that it will be published under the name Yakuza: Like a Dragon. We can also watch a new trailer that reveals more footage than the Japanese one and that also has subtitles.

As you can see in the video, Yakuza: Like a Dragon will introduce a new character in the series. We will leave behind the story of Kazuma Kiryu, and move to Yokohama to follow the adventures of another Yakuza, Ichiban Kasuga.

A bit more of Yakuza: Like a Dragon has been shown during the Tokyo Game Show 2019. The event started yesterday, and it will be running through the weekend and was the best place to reveal some of the new features of the new Yakuza game. We don’t say that because it’s one of the biggest video games events of the year but because SEGA has implemented so many new features in the game that it almost doesn’t look like a Yakuza title anymore, and maybe it will be only suitable for the Japanese public. It’s not only the combat system that has been changed; you will be able to choose between different “jobs” for your character, and each of them will grant you different abilities and combat capabilities. There will also be a lot of side activities, like kart races, pachinko, and dancing, and even though those have always been present in the series, they contribute even more to make Yakuza: Like a Dragon look like something more similar to a Final Fantasy RPG game than an action-adventure video game.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon will be released in January in Japan, and it should be available in the West at some point in 2020.

Project Resistance is a Resident Evil spin-off like you have never seen before

When we talk about the Resident Evil series, we all have in mind great single-player survival horror titles. Over the years it has become one of the most popular video games series and the list of titles in it has expanded quite a bit, including even a few remakes that have delighted the most exigent fans. But there are even more surprises on the way.

Resident Evil: Project Resistance is an asymmetric multiplayer title for five people that takes place in the Resident Evil universe. In this adventure, one of the players will act as the Mastermind that controls a facility where weird experiments take place. Four other players will play as the Survivors, and the will have to cooperate to escape from this place.

Project Resistance features 4v1 matches where the Survivors have a limited time to escape from the facility. They will have to navigate through the different scenarios that form the map while solving the puzzles that the Mastermind prepares for them, as well as facing traps, zombies, and other types of threats.

While tracking the other players through the video surveillance network in the place, the Mastermind will have a deck of cards that he can use to create a variety of obstacles in order to prevent the Survivors from escaping. He can also take direct control of the zombies to attack the other players however he chooses.

Project Resistance – The Survivors

Each of the Survivors will have unique skills and the use of those in cooperation with the other players will be needed if they all want to have a chance to escape and leave behind the nightmarish scenario that the Mastermind has created for them.

It’s needless to say that this type of gameplay has never been seen before in the Resident Evil series, but we can anticipate that there will be a lot of players excited with the idea of playing as the evil mastermind behind the scenes.

Project Resistance – The Mastermind

Resident Evil: Project Resistance is in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. If you are a member of the Xbox Insider Program or a RE Ambassador you can register to participate in the closed beta that has will take place from October 4 to October 7 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Civilization VI hosts an astonishing update

Civilization VI, the latest installment in the Sid Meier’s Civilization series, was released almost three years ago and since then, it has expanded its content with new leaders and civilizations that can be bought “à la carte”, but also with two DLC. With Rise and Fall, released in 2018 and Gathering Storm, released earlier this year, players are far from lacking in new content. But we have so far only cited the paid content, and it is quite possible not to pay to get new content in Civilization VI and just get it with the free updates.

Indeed, Firaxis regularly publishes updates for Civilization VI, and the one in September is rather surprising. If the one in June focused on the Gathering Storm expansion, the one in September will bring content for all players. This month’s update mainly adds a new mode, called Red Death, which is no other than a Battle Royale mode. Yes, it seems that the Battle Royale fashion keeps going, but which is, however, more surprising, is that we are more used to seeing this kind of mode in FPS. It can be interesting to see what it can add to a strategy game.

Civilization VI – The New Red Death Mode

Red Death introduces the main feature of the Battle Royale titles to the game, adding a radioactive cloud that threatens the players, spreading more and more as time progresses. In this mode, up to 12 players will have to try to survive, and only the last one alive will be able to escape from the planet via an extraction ship. You will not have to make your civilization progress, but protect your civilians. At the beginning of the game, you will face the AI to get equipment and improve your units, but with the safety zone narrowing, you will also face the other players as the game progresses. Several factions with various inspirations are available in this mode, and they are presented in the trailer below, which does not lack humor.

Even if the news is surprising, it does not fail to bring some novelty to the gameplay of Civilization VI. Red Death mode is already available for all PC players. Firaxis has not yet said anything about the release of this mode on Switch.

Remedy reveals its post-launch plans for Control

Control was released on August 27 and barely a couple of weeks after that Remedy has advanced what will be coming to its latest adventure in the following months. The creators of Quantum Break, Alan Wake and the Max Payne series will be expanding the content of Control with a free DLC and two expansions.

Control – Roadmap

First of all, Control will be getting Expeditions in December. Those that have finished dealing with the problem in the Old House will be able to experience a new and more challenging gameplay mode that will allow Jesse Faden to continue investigating. This time her mission will be to help Security Chief Arish. He has to explore the mysterious Formation and its strange surroundings. You will be the only one capable of helping him, that is, of course, providing that you are experienced enough and properly equipped.

We will have to wait a bit longer to play the two paid expansions. They will be released next year and even though Remedy has chosen not to reveal about the launch date or the contents we already know that the first one will be called The Foundation. If you think that the Old House is a weird place, wait to see what’s hidden below it… The second expansion is called AWE and it will allow Jesse to explore the Investigations Sector in the Old House, where the Bureau closely examines Altered World Events.

Control – Jesse in action

If you are one of those that are enjoying the awesome visuals that Control has to offer, you will be glad to know that the game is getting a Photo Mode this fall. We can’t understand that it was not added for the launch but better later than never.

It seems that the adventures of Jesse Faden as the director of the Bureau in Control will continue through the next year and that they will keep us busier than we initially expected.
