How to Use VLAN tagged NIC (Ethernet Card) on CentOS and RHEL Servers

There are some scenarios where we want to assign multiple IPs from different VLAN on the same Ethernet card (nic) on Linux servers (CentOS / RHEL). This can be done by enabling VLAN tagged interface. But for this to happen first we must make sure multiple VLANs are attached to port on switch or in other words we can say we should configure trunk port by adding multiple VLANs on switch.

VLAN-Tagged-NIC-Linux-Server

Let’s assume we have a Linux Server, there we have two Ethernet cards (enp0s3 & enp0s8), first NIC ( enp0s3 ) will be used for data traffic and second NIC (enp0s8) will be used for control / management traffic. For Data traffic I will using multiple VLANs (or will assign multiple IPs from different VLANs on data traffic ethernet card).

I am assuming the port from switch which is connected to my server data NIC is configured as trunk port by mapping the multiple VLANs to it.

Following are the VLANs which is mapped to data traffic Ethernet Card (NIC):

  • VLAN ID (200), VLAN N/W = 172.168.10.0/24
  • VLAN ID (300), VLAN N/W = 172.168.20.0/24

To use VLAN tagged interface on CentOS 7 / RHEL 7 / CentOS 8 /RHEL 8 systems, kernel module 8021q must be loaded.

Use the following command to load the kernel module “8021q”

[[email protected] ~]# lsmod | grep -i 8021q
[[email protected] ~]# modprobe --first-time 8021q
[[email protected] ~]# lsmod | grep -i 8021q
8021q                  29022  0
garp                   14384  1 8021q
mrp                    18542  1 8021q
[[email protected] ~]#

Use below modinfo command to display information about kernel module “8021q”

[[email protected] ~]# modinfo 8021q
filename:       /lib/modules/3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64/kernel/net/8021q/8021q.ko
version:        1.8
license:        GPL
alias:          rtnl-link-vlan
rhelversion:    7.2
srcversion:     2E63BD725D9DC11C7DA6190
depends:        mrp,garp
intree:         Y
vermagic:       3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64 SMP mod_unload modversions
signer:         CentOS Linux kernel signing key
sig_key:        79:AD:88:6A:11:3C:A0:22:35:26:33:6C:0F:82:5B:8A:94:29:6A:B3
sig_hashalgo:   sha256
[[email protected] ~]#

Now tagged (or mapped) the VLANs 200 and 300 to NIC enp0s3 using the ip command

[[email protected] ~]# ip link add link enp0s3 name enp0s3.200 type vlan id 200

Bring up the interface using below ip command:

[[email protected] ~]# ip link set dev enp0s3.200 up

Similarly mapped the VLAN 300 to NIC enp0s3

[[email protected] ~]# ip link add link enp0s3 name enp0s3.300 type vlan id 300
[[email protected] ~]# ip link set dev enp0s3.300 up
[[email protected] ~]#

Now view the tagged interface status using ip command:

tagged-interface-ip-command

Now we can assign the IP address to tagged interface from their respective VLANs using beneath ip command,

[[email protected] ~]# ip addr add 172.168.10.51/24 dev enp0s3.200
[[email protected] ~]# ip addr add 172.168.20.51/24 dev enp0s3.300

Use below ip command to see whether IP is assigned to tagged interface or not.

ip-address-tagged-nic

All the above changes via ip commands will not be persistent across the reboot. These tagged interfaces will not be available after reboot and after network service restart

So, to make tagged interfaces persistent across the reboot then use interface ifcfg files

Edit interface (enp0s3) file “/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-enp0s3” and add the following content,

Note: Replace the interface name that suits to your env,

[[email protected] ~]# vi /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-enp0s3
TYPE=Ethernet
DEVICE=enp0s3
BOOTPROTO=none
ONBOOT=yes

Save & exit the file

Create tagged interface file for VLAN id 200 as “/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-enp0s3.200” and add the following contents to it.

[[email protected] ~]# vi /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-enp0s3.200
DEVICE=enp0s3.200
BOOTPROTO=none
ONBOOT=yes
IPADDR=172.168.10.51

Cadence Of Hyrule Review

Cadence Of Hyrule mixes Crypt Of The Necrodancer and Zelda into a unique rhythm-based roguelike. Is it a match made in heaven or should you stick to traditional Zelda? Check out our review and find out what we thought of the game.

Cadence Of Hyrule Review

When you first boot up the game, you will be playing as Cadence, a young woman who is trapped in Hyrule and is not sure why she is here. After a brief tutorial, you get to choose between Link or Zelda to play. Link is more straightforward in my opinion because he can hold his shield up longer and deflect enemies attacks easier. Zelda has magic, though, and she can manually control where her fireball goes, making her more powerful but also more challenging to play. After you choose, you are thrust into this games version of Hyrule and tasked with clearing four dungeons to gain access to Hyrule Castle. Easier said than done.

For those of you unfamiliar with the roguelike game type, you can expect to die, a lot. I would say on average the first hour, or two will be spent trying to learn the games rhythm-based combat and memorizing enemy patterns. You also lose certain items and Rupees when you die. If this sounds overwhelming already, don’t worry, it is just a lot of one-two one-two on the Dpad. You can turn off the rhythm part of the combat as well, but I didn’t get nearly as much enjoyment out of that. When I beat the game, I had 36 deaths total and a little over nine hours of play time.

Cadence Of Hyrule Honest Game Review

So let’s get into how the actual game works. Moving to the beat, you will go one square at a time until you run into an enemy. If you move towards the enemy during the beat, you will attack them with your equipped weapon. For basic enemies just running straight at them works but eventually, they will have shields and armor so you’ll need to move around them a bit more. As far as enemies are concerned, you get a lot of Zelda classics. The knights from A Link to the past, Chu Chus, Poes, Deku Scrubs, Bokoblins, and Lynels, to name a few.

While your main task is to clear the dungeons, the land of Hyrule is full of other places to explore. Kakariko village Village and Gerudo Valley have Bombchu bowling and Archery Contests. The Lost Woods lures in wayward travelers in and tosses them right back out unless they know the right path. Cracked walls are waiting for you to throw a bomb at them, revealing their secrets and hidden merchants. Fortune tellers are waiting to take your hard-earned Rupees to help point you in the right direction. And of course, the great fairies are waiting to be found so our weary heroes can heal up and relax.

While we are talking about Rupees, let’s go over the two currencies in the game. Zelda’s traditional Rupees are earned by beating enemies, looting chests and can just be found in bushes. You can spend these on various items, potions, and some equipment upgrades. When you die, you lose all Rupees, so there is no sense in hoarding …

Cadence Of Hyrule – Future Hyrule Pig Statue Puzzle Guide

Cadence Of Hyrule - Future Hyrule Pig Statue Puzzle Guide
Once you travel to the future version of Hyrule Castle, there’s another puzzle. This Cadence Of Hyrule – Future Hyrule Pig Statue Puzzle Guide will tell you how to solve the puzzle so you can claim the special item locked away in the blue chest.

This puzzle can be found inside the same room of the original Hyrule Castle statue puzzle, but you must be in future Hyrule to do it. Future Hyrule opens up as you progress through the final dungeon of the game, just before the final boss battle.

Future Hyrule Pig Statue Puzzle Guide

Hover Boots
I’m not entirely sure this is the intended solution as none of the other puzzles to this point have required any of the temporary items. However, it’s a solution nonetheless. You need to find yourself a pair of Hover Boots.

These are not very rare but they are usually only found within dungeons or at certain stores. If you are in a dungeon and you find a pair, use the Lute to instantly leave the dungeon and then fast travel to the future Hyrule puzzle.

As shown in the top image, push the block to waters edge. Then jump onto the block. Jump over the river and onto the platform with the chest. Now you can open it and claim the special weapon that’s inside.

You are going to need three things to get to Yves. First off you need to know your way through the Lost Woods. We have a guide here that leads to the Deku Scrub and Tingle if you need it. Second you will need 10 additional Deku Seeds. The first 10 are used to upgrade your Stamina bar and the second 10 are used to unlock Yves. You can get I believe 8 in the Lost Woods on the map with the ghosts. If you need the extra Deku Seeds you will also need bombs as a third thing. Here is the cave on the map.

I advice using a spear in there as it is quicker than deflecting their Deku Seeds. When you finally have you second set of 10 Deku Seeds, return to Tingle and he will reward you with Yves as a new character. He starts with one heart, cannot use swords or items that require hands, but he does have a range attack and hide attack for those feeling up to a challenge.

In order to unlock Cadence, you must first find her four times in caves. Luckily these caves are normally right by the dungeons, so finding her on your map won’t be that hard. To be more specific you have to find her in the Lost Woods(the cave at the start), Lake Hylia(cave where she gives you an item), Death Mountain(cave near the Temple of Storms, and Gerudo Desert(cave with the red banner above it). When you find and speak to her for the fourth time, she will join you since she doesn’t know how to get home. She can use a shield like Link and has a shovel attack that can stun nearby enemies. She also gets any of the upgrades you already have for shield attacks.

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince shows its gameplay at the E3

Modus Games announced a new installment in the Trine series not too long ago, but we didn´t have an opportunity to see our three heroes in action until now. Yesterday, they released a video that showcases 18 minutes of gameplay of Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince at the E3, and the new adventure of Amadeus, Pontius and Zoya looks quite impressive.

In the video, you can see Kai and Anti from Frozenbyte, the studio developing the game, explaining the multiple new capabilities of our heroes as they solve puzzles and progress through the game. As you probably know, Pontius is a knight that wields sword and shield, Amadeus is a mage with telekinetic powers, and Zoya is a thief that uses grappling hooks, bow, and arrows. You can swap between them anytime and combine their abilities to solve puzzles as you advance through the different scenarios. You will also unlock many different skills that will offer you a whole new world of possibilities. Your mission in Trine 4: The Nightmare Prinze is to save Prince Selius, whose nightmares are escaping the land of dreams and invading the real world.

This epic adventure is something that you don’t have to play alone tho, because Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince also has a multiplayer mode where up to 4 friends can play and solve the dynamic physics-based environmental puzzles together. As you can see, Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince has dropped the 3D graphics that were used in the previous game in the series in favor of 2.5D visuals that are much more similar to the original graphics in the first title in the Trine saga. The game is stunning, and it features gorgeous landscapes, detailed characters, and fantastic animations with a beautiful art style.

Trine 4 – Zoya, Amadeus and Pontius

If you like platform games and solving puzzles, Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince is a game that you can´t miss. There is no release date for the game yet, but we know that it´s coming this fall. Until then, you can practice your skills with the previous Trine games.

Cadence Of Hyrule Weapon Infuse Guide

Cadence Of Hyrule Weapon Infuse Guide
Fairy Fountains allow you to improve the power of your weapons. This Cadence Of Hyrule Weapon Infuse Guide will explain how the infusing system works including information on which fuses work best and the overall mechanics of the system.

Fairy Fountains are found randomly in Cadence of Hyrule. The game world is randomized so I cannot give you an exact location. However, they are displayed on the map once discovered. Look for the small fairy icon. Each Fairy Fountain has two different fusions you can buy.

Cadence Of Hyrule Weapon Infuse Guide

Each Fusion costs Diamonds, but it’s quite cheap. You can only infuse a weapon with one perk. If you purchase another perk, it will override the previous perk. You can fuse all weapons except for the Caladbolg, I guess it’s deemed too powerful to improve.

Below is a list of the different fusions you can find:

Titanium
Increases weapon damage by 1

Ruby
Drains life from enemies with each attack

Obsidian
Increases damage based on multiplier from beat score

Emerald
Deals Poison Damage with each attack
