What Are The Different Kinds Of Computers?

We use computers for different reasons and different tasks. But either we’re at the office or not, computers remain the same in terms of function. They write documents, save media files, send emails, let you search the web, tabulate data, update your social media, and all the computing processes there is. But these computers are the ones that we commonly know of. There are other types that seem unfamiliar with most people. Even these computers we use in the office or at home can differ from each other base on how heavy we use them. For example, if you are active on social media, you can always use a computer to update or upload files. But if you use it for business or as a job, then you will need a computer that’s best suited for more creative tasks.

Now let’s check out the other types of computers.

Supercomputers. You might have probably heard of this one. These are the fastest and biggest computers that exist. They are used to calculate weather patterns, quantum physics, and even perform mock nuclear weapon detonation.

The “Father of Supercomputing,” Seymour Cray, built the first supercomputer in 1963 called the CDC 6600, according to Cray Inc. He founded the company Cray Research to focus on engineering supercomputer systems. Supercomputers provide the fastest processing speed of any computer. Used for highly complex calculations, supercomputers possess extreme processing capabilities. For example, the Jaguar, a Cray Inc. supercomputer, operates at 1750 Teraflops (floating point operations per second) at peak performance—which means the system can calculate 1,750,000 Gigabytes per second. Supercomputers work behind the scenes to drive the most advanced information research forward. They are used for various highly specified applications including weather research, quantum physics, nuclear weapon detonation simulations and a class of problems called the “Grand Challenge problems,” a set of problems requiring a high-performance computer.

Mid-range computers are called so after the rise of desktop computers. They were used to do various applications.

The mid-range computer, originally called the minicomputer and currently called a server, is between a microcomputer and mainframe computer (as related to size and power). The term “minicomputer” developed during the 1960s to describe computers that utilized transistor technology. During the 1970s and 1980s, the development of microcomputers—or desktops—placed minicomputers in the mid-range designation. They were considered a more powerful single-user machine. True minicomputers began to decline, however, due to a less-expensive minicomputer that used microprocessor technology. Mid-range computers provide processing services for several applications. They are used to run back-end applications such as enterprise email, database systems and network-wide antivirus software.

Personal computers are the computers we know, use, and love today. They are also known as microcomputers because their processors are micro. If supercomputers are for the most complex computing, microcomputers are for everyday use. It cannot process humongous data, but it can still process major ones.

Considered the first desktop, the HP 9830, which was released for consumer use in the 1970s, surpassed computers at the time because it featured a hard drive and utilized the BASIC programming language. Microcomputers are the most common consumer device. This computer type includes desktop personal computers and laptops. Microcomputers use a microprocessor

Hearthstone’s new expansion is all about dragons

Hearthstone players have been asking for an expansion focused on dragons for a while, and Blizzard couldn’t be happier to satisfy their demands. Last weekend’s announcement of Descent of Dragons during the BlizzCon 2019 has served to reveal some of the new cards and mechanics that this expansion is bringing, along with a new gameplay mode that reminds us of AutoChess.

Descent of Dragons will continue the story of the League of E.V.I.L. Our favorite group of villains is now focused on awakening the dragon Galakrond. This fact is reflected in the addition of its card, which will be given for free to all players when the expansion launches. It will have a hero power associated with each class, which will trigger every time you play a card with the keyword “Invoke”.

Galakrond will only be available to the E.V.I.L. classes – Warlock, Rogue, Priest, Warrior, and Shaman – but there are also other types of cards that will help the rest of the classes in HearthStone. Those are the Side Missions, that are similar to the missions we have seen in the past but require fewer steps to activate and have useful but less powerful effects.

Apart from the new cards and mechanics, Descent of Dragons is also binging the new Battlegrounds mode to the game. It’s a multiplayer mode for eight players where you will choose an iconic character of World of Warcraft lore to fight against other players with an army of minions that you will recruit through the game.

If you want to know more about Descent of Dragons, its new mechanics, and cards, you can visit the official Hearthstone website, which will be actualized with the new ones as they are revealed. Descent of Dragons will be available globally on December 10th, but if you want to give a try to the Battlegrounds mode a bit earlier, there is an open beta that will launch on November 12th.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will completely change the game

BlizzCon 2019 has come to an end and this year we have got all that expected and a bit more. The reveal of Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 have been spectacular, causing great excitement among the fans, but World of Warcraft’s next expansion shadowed them both when its features were listed. Silvanas killed Saurfang in Battle for Azeroth after he challenged her to Mak’gora, but in the process she revealed her disdain for all living things, abandoning her position as leader of the Horde and leaving everyone wondering about her destiny. The presentation video of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands provides the answer to that question.

When everyone thought that she was going to take over the Lich King’s army she instead breaks the barrier between Azeroth and the land where the souls of the deceased go. World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will offer players a new universe to explore with four new factions (Covenants) for players to join that will define their experience through the expansion. As they become allies with those Covenants, the players will gain special skills and armor sets progressing through the specific campaign of each of them, but using a system that is not going to be the typical reputation system used previously in World of Warcraft. Instead of that, players will have to forge bonds with different individuals, becoming stronger in the process.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will come with new zones to explore, lots of quests, new enemies and much more, but it will also change some core mechanics of the game to change the experience of the players. The first huge change and the most commented one is about the leveling system. With this expansion, the maximum level in World of Warcraft will be 60. Blizzard is changing the leveling experience in the game to make it shorter but more meaningful. The addition of a new starting zone available to all players and connected to Battle for Azeroth will provide a more streamlined experience that will also allow you to level from 10 to 50 in whatever expansion you choose, providing a better connection to the latest content available. The players that are level 120 when the expansion comes out will be level 15 instead and the place to level up from 50 to 60 will be Shadowlands.

Along with those changes to the leveling system World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will also see the return of class defining mechanics that were previously pruned, like totems, auras or curses. Blizzard is putting a focus on class identity again instead of specializations, probably trying to get that aspect of the game a bit closer to what it is in World of Warcraft Classic, which is having a great success among the players.

With plenty of surprises and much more to be revealed during the following months, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has been the great announcement of this year’s BlizzCon, and when it’s released in 2020 it will contribute a lot to maintain World of Warcraft in its position as the most popular MMORPG of all times.

The Streaming Wars Are Upon Us

Story 349043358

We all love Netflix, don’t we? It’s not perfect, but it kickstarted a wonderful avenue of consuming entertainment. Over the past few years, Netflix became a mass media empire to be reckoned with, amassing a massive library of content catering to all kinds of demographics. However, the tides are starting to change. In the near future, titans such as WarnerMedia (AT&T), Disney, NBCUniversal (Comcast), and Apple are launching their own iterations of the Netflix business model within the next year. They want a slice of the pie Netflix is eating and they want it badly. This turn of events is what many people call The Streaming Wars.

WarnerMedia’s HBO Max will leverage all the content from all the company’s subsidiaries including HBO, Cartoon Network, TNT, TBS, DC, Cinemax, and more. Disney+ is flaunting their strong brand recognition with a ton of Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, NatGeo, and obviously Disney content. Peacock, while launching as a free ad-supported service like Sony Crackle, aspires to do something similar to both HBO Max and Disney+, compiling all existing franchises and new IP from NBCUniversal. AppleTV+ is focusing primarily on original IP while putting an emphasis on quality over quantity.

Image result for iron man mcu

Image courtesy of The Walt Disney Company. Please don’t sue us, Mr. Iger.

What matters most is that third-party support for Netflix, the once safe haven for all entertainment companies to distribute their new shows and movies, is going to ultimately significantly drop. It won’t be instantaneous, considering contracts can take years to expire, which explains why Disney+ won’t have the entire MCU catalog at launch. We also have Sony Pictures Entertainment acting as an outlier of the Big Five. Sony already has their streaming service, Sony Crackle. However, that’s a free platform and thus usually has a lot of…let’s say low-tier content. Outside of Crackle, Sony produces exclusive content for multiple platforms. Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, they don’t care.

Image result for sony crackle

You can find some entertaining stuff on here. Not good stuff, but…stuff.

Could Sony establish a paid streaming service? Honestly, that’s pretty unlikely considering Crackle is presumably raking in a healthy amount of ad revenue money. The more people watch Crackle, the more money Sony makes. It’s a low-profile service, but Sony’s doing fine with producing higher budget shows on bigger platforms. If they do happen to make their own premium platform and move all their shows and movies there, they would just make a Premium version of Crackle. The likelihood of that is low as there are no reports indicating them of doing so. Also, Sony is in no dire financial need thanks to PlayStation and their other businesses performing well. I discount Viacom as they are in the process of merging with CBS, who has their own paid streaming service, CBS All Access.

Now that we’ve established all the big players in the looming streaming wars, what should we expect the outcome to be? Will any service “die”? This war isn’t necessarily about killing the incumbent leading streaming service. These companies recognize that there is a market that would watch their content on a regular basis. Netflix has well over 100 million subscribers and I don’t see them shrinking by a considerable amount, if at all. Maybe users that subscribe
