Yakuza 7 has been announced

Yakuza series has been running for more than ten years and they have become quite popular. The story of Kazuma Kiryu has given SEGA enough material to create a few games, some of them even based on secondary characters. We have also seen remakes like Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2, and even a prequel, Yakuza 0.

SEGA has surprised us with the announcement of Yakuza 7, a new title in the series that will follow the story of Ichiban Kasuga, another former Yakuza that has taken the blame for a crime he did not commit. The action will move to a new scenario too, and this time we will be able to explore the streets of Yokohama in an open-world adventure with RPG elements that will have a map three times bigger than the one in the previous game.

But what is really surprising is that Yakuza 7 will feature turn-based combat. Yes, you have heard it right. The next installment will have a completely different combat system. SEGA seems to be wanting to risk a lot with Yakuza 7 and might have turned the game into a sort of Final Fantasy.

Guessing the reaction of the fans of the Yakuza series to this huge change in the game’s mechanics is not an easy thing. We should wait a bit longer to know more about the game before deciding if such a drastic change is worth it or not. Maybe the developers are trying to get the attention of a different type of players.

We will probably learn more about Yakuza 7 during the Tokyo Game Show next month. The release of the game is scheduled for January 16, 2020, on PlayStation 4 in Japan. It should come to the West a few months after that.

Who Are You, Mr. Cooper? Review

Inspired by the “choose your own adventure” books made popular ages ago, The Last Fairy Tale puts players on the hunt for Alexander Cooper in their new title Who Are You, Mr. Cooper? The books that made the genre prided themselves on trial, error, and interactivity – does this game manage to capture their spirit?

Who Are You, Mr. Cooper? Review

The tale of this title begins with a bang – literally. After catching up with your acquaintance Arthur at a tavern, an explosion goes off that kills your pal. In his dying breath, he gives you a letter and tells you to find Alexander Cooper, who knows the code. What follows is a journey through a steampunk world, one where a bunch of no-goods want you dead and life is a grind.

Traveling between 13 different districts in the fictional world of Staighrem, players navigate this capital of the Empire with their electric machine. The entirety of the game focuses primarily on text with the occasional management of coin, health, and inventory. It’s not unlike classics like The Oregon Trail, where everything must be kept in perfect harmony. For instance, players can take up a job for additional money, but it comes at the cost of your health.

When things go smoothly, this works as it should. The resource management can be entertaining, and being on top of the world can be a refreshing feeling. Winning a horse race or gleaning insights at the Inventor’s Club will put you out ahead, and it makes the rest of the game that much easier.

However, Who Are You, Mr. Cooper? has a nasty habit of relying on luck. Much like life, the game likes to throw a wrench into your plans at any given opportunity. A perfect example of this is with the never-do-goods who follow you around – arriving in random locales forces you to contend with these fellows, either by running away or blending with the crowd. Both have their drawbacks, as the minigames tied to them are rigged. One literally relies on a luck of the cards, while another requires fervent clicking that we were just not able to keep up with. It’s cheap, and it could have just as easily been removed to level the playing field. Seeing how failure leads to a swift kick to the title screen, this is a cardinal gaming sin.

The game also suffers from its repetitive nature. It’s perfectly fine that the game almost entirely resides in menus with text, but not a lot of time or energy went into the design of each area. Artwork for each district repeats itself, and visiting the same area multiple times will occasionally bring up the same options. There are times where players need to traverse from one area to another, paying up each time they travel, only to have to traverse back to the very beginning of the game because that lead was a dead end. To add insult to injury, some stops require a hefty payout under the “guise” of accessing an archive. If more work went into this design, it wouldn’t start to feel like a grind.

Bloodlines 2 introduces its first faction, the Pioneers

We already know about all the vampire clans that will be present in Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 but the universe of the game is full of different factions that have their own say about what happens in Seattle. The city has been there for long enough for plenty of different groups of influence, vampiric and not vampiric, to settle down in the streets and claim their own share of the territory as well as areas of influence, and the first one we know about is the Pioneers.

Bloodlines 2 – The Pioneers

Five factions fight for the control of the city and the Pioneers are one of the oldest ones. This group of vampires was one of the first to settle in Seattle and they view it as a “last frontier”, one that is free from the tight regulations and politics that affect other big metropolises. They are fierce, independent, romantic, and idealist, but they still believe in the structures of power than are needed to give society certain stability. Even though they once controlled a great portion of the city, they have been forced to give up most of their areas of influence and now they cling to their memories of long past power.

But do not be mistaken; the Pioneers are still a force to be wary of in the political arena of modern Seattle. The long years they have spent controlling the city have provided then with enough of a financial foothold to be deemed as one of the influential factions of Seattle. Under the leadership of Lou Grand, “longest-reigning prince” in the area, they will fight fiercely to maintain what remains of their old world.

As new factions are revealed in the following months, you will discover that the life of a vampire in Bloodlines 2 can be more complicated and fascinating than what it would seem to be at first glance. One step in the wrong direction or an inappropriate word in a bad moment may end in a world of trouble.

Only certain Pokemon can be evolved in Pokemon Masters. For instance I leveled my Voltorb up with Surge to max level and it cannot be evolved. Still there are a couple that you can evolve for sure and one you should focus on is Snivy. Snivy has a move that increases your move gauge allowing you to attack quicker. In order to evolve Snivy, you must get Rosa and Snivy up to level 30. This will open up a new Sync Pair Stories and then select Rosa. If you do not have the Evolution Shards then you can exchange coins for them at Tricia in the lobby. The fight is one and one with you using the Pokemon you want to evolve. It is not an easy fight and you will probably want to be level 35 or above before taking it on. After you win the Pokemon will evolve so be sure you want that to happen.

I am working on a list of Pokemon that can and cannot evolve down below but it is a work in progress.

Sony announced today that the next two titles coming to PlayStation Plus are Batman Arkham Knight and Darksiders III.

Available to subscribers in September, the downloads will be available on September 3.

Batman: Arkham Knight is set in an open world Gotham City, and tasks Batman with taking down the Arkham Knight. Darksiders III, on the other hand, features MetroidVania elements and tasks players to take down the Seven Deadly Sins.

Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King Announced


Digital Eclipse and Nighthawk Interactive announced today that Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King will come out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 29.

Both titles will feature upscaled graphics to support high definition displays and additional upgrades to enhance playability have been included. These updates include instant save states, a “Rewind” button to jump back up to 15 seconds, invulnerability, infinite lives, and a level select.

Also included are the Sega Genesis, Game Boy and Super Game Boy releases for each title, along with The Lion King Super Nintendo Entertainment System version.

Frostpunk: the first DLC of the Season Pass is available

Frostpunk, released on April 2018 and developed by 11 Bit Studios, to whom we also owe Moonlighter and This War of Mine, is getting new content.

While the game has received several free updates, like the one introducing the Endless mode, 11 Bit Studios is not finished at all with Frostpunk.

The news went almost unnoticed until then, but during the Investor Conference last March, the studio announced the arrival of a Season Pass. This conference was a summary of the year 2018 and informed us about the upcoming projects in 2019. We learned then that Frostpunk’s second season would be launched with the sale of a season pass featuring “the first paid DLC with a comparable scale to the main scenario”.

It’s been done. The first DLC of Frostpunk’s Season Pass was released yesterday with the title The Rifts. Presented as a mini-expansion, The Rifts introduces a new map for Endless mode as well as a new type of building, the bridges. The new map is composed of several rocky clusters with steep cliffs that form a kind of archipelago. The configuration of this map offers a whole new way of playing. The Rifts is included in the Season Pass but it is also possible to buy it separately.

We also have learned that this first DLC is just an appetizer, because the Season Pass will contain two more in the future: The Last Autumn, and Project ‘TVADGYCGJR’.

Frostpunk – New map The Rifts

The Last Autumn should come out at the end of the year and will propose a new scenario, more precisely a prequel, and new mechanics of the game. We imagine that it is this the DLC which was mentioned during the conference because it is advertised as the most consistent of the Season Pass. Project ‘TVADGYCGJR’ which will be released in 2020 and it remains a mystery; we just know that this famous project will be at the heart of the DLC. We should, however, have more info on the latter at the release of The Last Autumn.

Finally, in parallel with this announcement, a free update is also available. It features three new maps for the Endless mode: Frozen Grove, Snowdrifts, and Hanging Rock; all three from The Arks, Refugees, and Fall of Winterhome scenario maps.

The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan Review

Man of Medan is the newest title from Supermassive Games, the development team behind Until Dawn. Does it pick up the horror mantle that their previous title started, or are you better of skipping this one?

Man of Medan starts in 1947, with some American soldiers loading coffins and cargo onto a large boat. Here you play as two buddies that are drinking and unwinding before shipping off of China to head home. Before boarding the ship, you get a brief tutorial on how the game works, which includes elements like choices, quick-time events, and how to attack when you can. On your way back to the ship, a scuffle happens between you and some other soldiers, resulting in your buddy being locked in the Brigg and you being knocked out. You wake up to gunshots and screams, and the horrors of the ship are finally revealed to you. By the end of this section, you have more questions than answers, leading to the hook of the game.

Fast forward to 2019, and we meet the actual cast of the game as they begin to search for a sunken wreck. The wreck the characters are looking for isn’t the ghost ship, but a downed plane they think no one else has found. During this time, you learn about the characters, get to know their traits, and make some critical decisions that will have effects later in the game. The cruise isn’t all sunshine and rainbows though; pirates hijack your boat and lead you straight into the ghost ship…by accident, of course. Your main job is to get all your characters back alive and to figure out the mystery of the boat. Expect to finish this adventure in three or four hours.

Man of Medan Honest Game Review

Like the studio’s last game, Man of Medan is a cinematic experience mixed with a walking simulator. You have to make character choices, avoid death via quick-time events, and sometimes play a rhythm mini-game to avoid being seen. When you aren’t doing that, you are walking around the ship finding clues and notes that the previous occupants left behind. Walking in these types of games has always been rough, but the camera angles in this game can be really frustrating. The characters walk so stiff and run into each other a lot as well. It works, but it is sometimes a pain in the ass.

Man of Medan is a fully co-op experience from start to finish, providing both couch co-op and online play. We played two playthroughs online, and the experience was rocky to say the least. Sometimes it’d tell us we had a weak connection and pause the game in a terrible spot, such as right before a button prompt. One person can be exploring, and then a cutscene triggers, canceling whatever the other person was doing. You can’t see traits or anything else you can see in single player. The way the story is set up, co-op is actually brilliant, but it just doesn’t work very well online. We were unable to test couch co-op.

Co-op isn’t the only spot we ran into issues. There are plenty of frame drops on both PlayStation 4 Pro systems used to play the title. This …
